The latest is that of Tochimilco, on the slopes of the active Popocatéptl volcano: a school destroyed by the 2017 earthquake in Mexico and rebuilt in less than a year by Specchio dei tempi. A symbolic school: the twenty- seventh built by our foundation after a catastrophe. Because children are the future and the heart of communities and you can only restart from children. Specchio knows this and has always invested in schools to give hope.
From projects against alcohol abuse to tutoring projects, in which the brightest students help their most fragile classmates. Over 150 institutions are involved in our initiatives every year. Thousands of young people reached, with courses in journalism and first aid, Alternation School Work and Pet Therapy programmes which see the dogs of the Aslan association alongside children and young people with disabilities.
Then there is the daily commitment to integration and schooling in the most degraded suburbs of Turin, with after-school and entertainment services. And again the Chorus Contest and the magic workshops which help to grow together and interact with others. Forming good, responsible and respectful citizens is the goal of every project but in particular of “Let’s connect the children of the world”, the network that unites the students of the structures we have created in the various continents. A virtual network, because online exchanges, distance learning and digital tools are the new challenges of the school, accelerated by the lockdown.
Since the beginning of the Coronavirus emergency we have been at the forefront and we have thought of the youngest. We have donated sanitizing kits to facilitate recovery in classrooms and a thousand tablets, with connection, to help those most in need in their home studies. We have also donated hundreds of explanatory posters of the anti-contagion rules, because we have learned that to stay close to schools, often small things are needed. Small, but practical.
